Position Paper Deadlines/Requirements

Hello once again, delegates!

Hope you all are managing the preparation for committee later this month well! Just wanted to remind everyone about position paper requirements and deadlines for Berkeley Model United Nations!

The deadline for position papers in order to be eligible for research and best position paper awards is tonight at 11:59 pm PST! They should be uploaded to Huxley, as per instructions communicated to you by your advisors! However, the deadline for position papers in order to be eligible for general committee awards is February 9th at 11:59 pm PST! If you have trouble meeting those deadlines due to unforeseen circumstances, feel free to reach out to me and you may be considered for an extension!

Please remember that your position paper should display a comprehensive knowledge of the situation/topic in committee, should be organized and well-structured, should treat the topic with the
requisite seriousness expected of a UN delegate, and should be original in thought and on-policy with your assigned country. In terms of structure, we recommend the following sections:

  1. Past and Current International Action (20%) - 2/3 page
  2. Country’s Position (20%) - 2/3 page
  3. Proposed Solutions (40%) - 1 1/4 pages
  4. Questions to Consider (15%) - 1/2 page
Moreover, they should be typed in 12 point Times New Roman Font, single-spaced at 3 pages maximum per topic; not including the bibliography. All citations should be done in the MLA format. Please submit in .doc, .docx, or .pdf with 1 inch margins on all sides.I would also like to add that all work must be your OWN.
Plagiarism is not tolerated at BMUN, and if plagiarism found in any delegate's paper, the chair will void the paper score, ensure the is delegate ineligible for committee awards, and will notify the delegate's advisor.

We are also having office hours for anyone who wants to discuss position paper feedback and advice for conference preparation! PBC's office hours will be on 2/16/21 (7-8 pm PST), 2/19/21 (10-11 am PST), and 2/20/21 (11 am-1 pm PST)!

I know that was a lot of information, so if you have any questions or concerns, please comment below or email our dais at pbcbmunlxix@bmun.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Until we see each other, good luck with researching and writing everyone!
